ABOUT

The Weymouth Vintage Bus Running Day is currently taking a break but we hope to see it return before too long

Now in its seventh year, the 2013 rally was this year held on its usual weekend, Sunday, 16 June 2013. The event commenced at 10:00 am and ran through to just after 5:00 pm.  The venue this year was once again the Lodmoor Car Park, just off the eastern end of the Sea Front and right next to the Premier Travel Inn.  The site allows full hard standing for the static display together with an adjacent bus departure area.

In 2011 we were pleased to announce new sponsors for the event - South West Coaches and Weymouth & Portland Borough Council - and both kindly indicated their willingness to assist us again in 2013.  We wish to record our appreciation to both supporters in the continuing difficult economic climate.

As mentioned, the all-important date was Sunday, 16 June 2013 and the event largely followed the successful format of previous years with a wide variety of buses and coaches on display and in service.

Bus services once again ran to Portland Bill where fantastic views are available of Chesil Beach en-route as the bus climbs up through Portland, and to Bowleaze Cove giving the chance to ride along the full length of the seafront.  A number of other services ran again this year (see link above).

As usual, most of the buses running in service travelled along the Esplanade allowing photographers some fine photo opportunities in and around the seafront area.

The 454 route serving the railway station ran again in 2013 giving easy access to and from the rally site for those visitors coming by train, leaving the car in the large Swannery car park nearby or arriving in the town centre via the new Park & Ride service accessed from the Relief Road. Alternatively, there are always more than adequate parking facilities available at Lodmoor, right adjacent to the rally site.

As usual, we ran an informal trip to Portland Bill on the Saturday evening for those who arrived in Weymouth a day early to enjoy the beautiful seaside town, the jewel of the Dorset Jurrasic Coast.
